about
„Rabeh“ is a song dedicated to contemporary dancer Hassan Rabeh, who committed suicide in 2016. „Rabeh“ narrates the two stories of the eponymous artist: one of a talented and aspiring young man, part of globally acclaimed Sima Dance Company, and another one of a refugee, who was forced to flee places he called home twice. From Palestine to Syria when he was a child, and after the war broke out to Beirut, Lebanon. He turned only 25 years old.
The tragedy of Hassan Rabeh’s death touched singer Yousef Kekhia, a Syrian refugee himself, so much that he promised to write him „a song he could dance to up there“. Even though the two never met, Kekhia felt connected to this artist’s story, and that his story needs to be told and shall not be forgotten.
„Rabeh“ is part of the „Prologue Sessions“, a prequel to Yousef Kekhia’s debut album „Monologue“, which release is set for 2019. The song was recorded live in Kekhia’s Berlin studio together with fellow musicians Bisher Hafez (Piano) and Mohammad Tayyara (Electric Guitar).
